The Process
It
takes three people to make up a news reporting team. You must first decide which
role each person will play. The descriptions are below. Go ahead and see which
role best fits you. After you have choosen your role, each of you will select
a natural disaster to study. You will each be responsible for completing a worksheet
about your natural disaster. After your research is complete, you will need
to meet up with your group to discuss what you have found. It is important that
each member educate the others about their natural disaster. Once you all understand
how they work, where they happen, and how to prepare for them, you will need
to put together a presentation. Make it exciting, interesting, and include pictures
or models. You will be reporting your findings to the class as a news broadcaster
in a 7-10 minute presentation.
Step #1- Choose your role
The
Scientist - You are responsible for explaining to the
group how the natural disaster works. What forces are at work inside or above
the earth that create the force. Describe each step and give definitions for
new vocabulary terms.
The
Geographer
- You
are responsible for reporting to the group where these natural phenomenon happen
most often. You will want to think globally and check with the scientist for
explanations as to why they happen where they do.
The
News Reporter - You are responsible for describing what
kinds of damage can occur. Also include information about how people can prepare
for natural disasters and give some tips for getting through one of these incidents
safely. You will also want to draw pictures with the help of your other teammates
to show what these natural phenomenon look like.
Step #2- Choose your Natural Disasters (one per person)
