Varsity Band members wear black dress pants or a floor length black skirt with the official band tuxedo shirt. A black button is also worn with the black varsity band vest. Band members are expected
to practice each week! Mr. Roberts collects
practice records each Friday. A practice record is simply a list, chart,
or note describing how much you have practiced. Practice records must be
signed by a parent or guardian. Remember that a band is only
as good as its members. Each member must do his or her part and learn the
music. We all have to work at our music in order to perform well. We all
have a responsibility to practice and improve! Mr. Roberts gives grades for
practicing as follows: 4 hours per week = A Beginners should click here to see Mr.
Roberts' website about practicing.
April 8
JV Band Festival In band your grade is based on three categories: practicing, class
participation, and tests/assignments. Practicing is 25% of your over-all
grade. Tests and assignments are 25% of your grade. Class participation is
50% of your over-all grade. Practicing is graded as discussed above. Tests
and assignments are usually written in class or performed in class. Class
participation is the way you work each day in band. As you can see, it is very important that band students participate
well in band class. Half of your grade is your daily participation work in
the class. People who participate well each day earn the best grades. If
you participate well each day and turn in all of your practice records you
will earn a good grade in band and become a successful musician at Kenny
Guinn.
