This lesson was developed as part of the Clark County School District's Child Development Class Course Syllabus and Standards
This lesson is very useful in explaining to students that babies are expensive. They may be cute and cuddly, but they are also a lot of work. This is a basic project to make the students understand that if they want to be parents, there are some consequences that come with it. Money always seems to hit home with students.
One thing
that you will need to elaborate on (in another lesson, or as part of this
lesson), is that this is not the end of their spending, just the beginning.
They will also have to pay for hospital stay, living expensive, car and
insurance, what are they going to do if they don't have a perfectly healthy
baby? What are the costs in having a baby with a physical or mental
disorder? Where can they find help with things like: WIC,
welfare, etc..
