Technology
Integration Lesson
The goal of this assignment is for
you to reinforce and extend your
learning in this course by planning technology-based lessons. The
lessons can address the subject and grade level of your choice and
must:
- incorporate at least two of the
five areas described in
the course
objectives and the National
Educational Technology Standards
(NETS), and
- include a minimum of three
different technology
applications
(Web-based resources, educational software, spreadsheet/graphing,
concept mapping (Inspiration), PowerPoint, Web authoring).
A key component of this assignment is
that it builds upon the
thinking you articulated in your Technology Journey essay and upon
ideas raised in the course readings. After you've developed a draft of
your materials, you will need to get detailed feedback
from at least one person. While hopefully you will get to implement
your lesson(s)
with a class, that's not required at this point.
This lesson
should be an original activity that is developed for this course. This
should not be based upon a project for another course or something you
have already developed. This is an opportunity to develop something
from scratch that demonstrates your ability to conceptualize, design
and deliver a technology integration lesson. If you are not currently in a
classroom, please propose an alternative that would work for you but
also meets the requirements of the assignment.
Your lesson(s) should include the
following and be submitted as IntegrationYourLastName.doc.
Introduction (1/2 to 1 page)
Briefly review the need for the lesson, your theoretical
perspective, and summarize the activity.
Rationale for the Project (2-3 pages)
Identify the need based upon the target
population, technology
standards, content standards
(district, state or national) and course objectives. Then describe how
this activity reflects
your current thinking about how technology can best enhance teaching
and learning. Support your choices with references to at least
two
course readings.
Activity Description (1-3 pages)
In this section provide an overall
description of the activity,
specific objectives, special needs considerations, procedures, and
assessment of student performance.
Sample Student Output
After you've created your lesson, you
should complete the learning
activities as a student might. You should submit this sample student
work (clearly labeled, with the appropriate extension for the file
type--e.g., .ppt for a PowerPoint file, .xls for an Excel file) with
your completed assignment.
Evaluation (1-2 pages)
You must evaluate the activity by having
at least one person attempt
to complete the lesson(s). This
section should include the following information:
- Who did you have
attempt the activity?
- What problems did they encounter?
- Was their perception of the duration and difficulty in line with
what you projected?
- What changes might be made to enhance the lesson(s)?
- What was good and will remain unchanged?
Conclusions & Self Assessment
(1/2 to 1 page)
Briefly discuss your overall conclusions about the likely effectiveness
of lesson(s) that you created. Also reflect on your own learning in
creating it.
Your integration lesson will be evaluated using a this evaluation
rubric.
